The project explores the following questions: What are the technical options for designing surveillance-friendly software systems, and what are the security tradeoffs for these systems? How is the U.S. government trying to regulate encryption, and what have the outcomes been so far? Does the U.S. government have the legal authority and/or other capacity to force companies to adopt particular crypto implementations, and if so, should it?
